Der Wilcoxon-Rang-Sum Test, auch bekannt als Mann-Whitney-U-Test, macht keine Annahmen über die statistische Verteilung von Wörtern in einem Korpus (Wilcoxon 1945, Mann & Whitney 1947). Es basiert auf dem Vergleich der Summe von Rangfolgen von Texten in zwei Textsammlungen. Die Rangordnungen von Texten werden nach der Häufigkeit des Zielwortes definiert, ohne zu berücksichtigen, zu welchem der beiden Korpora dieser Text gehört (vgl. Lijffijt 2014). In unserer Implementierung summiert dieses Maß die Häufigkeiten des Zielwortes pro Segment des Dokuments; Aus diesem Grund betrachten wir es eher als ein dispersionsbasiertes und nicht als ein frequenzbasiertes Maß.
